HR Network

The HR Network seeks to improve policy, practice and procedures and embed good practice and the highest standards across all the organisations. The HR Network invites expert speakers to update them on key areas of legislation, policy and practice, such as pensions, CRB and safeguarding issues, employment law, equality and diversity and change management and motivating staff. They also work together on a range of collective activities for the benefit of NGCV staff, organisations and the partnership as a whole:

Equality Standard Gold Award: All NGCV organisations achieved the Equality Standard Gold Award in October 2013.  This is a major achievement and has been supported by Equality North East.  It is based on a rigorous assessment of the policies, procedures and practices of organisations and demonstrates the highest quality of these in relation to supporting equality and diversity for audiences, staff, volunteers and partners.

Local Response Fund Project: NGCV is working with Ingeus UK on a training programme for employees, which will provide training to around 300 staff up to July 2015, as well as developing NGCV members' capacity to become providers of training.  This is the first Local Response Fund project in the country to be approved. See press release.

Volunteer Pool:  An NGCV Volunteer Pool, building on the well regarded pool run by Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums and offering volunteering opportunities across all venues.

Training:  A range of shared training opportunities are regularly offered for staff and managers, either offered by NGCV organisations (equalities, specialist technical training), procured from other providers (such as ACAS Handling difficult conversations) or negotiated with group discounts (such as first aid, fire warden training etc).

Events and offers for staff and volunteers: As a means to reward staff and raise awareness of each others' venues and cultural offer, a range of initiatives have been put in place by the HR Network.  There is a set list of 10 offers (1 from each organisation) to staff and volunteers, including discounts at shops and on tickets.  There are also ad hoc offers promoted to staff and volunteers. 22 monthly Open House events were hosted by venues up to July 2012 and two annual staff events were held to engage them in the partnership.

Public transport and travel offers: Cycle to Work and public transport pass schemes have been negotiated by the NGCV Finance Directors and HR leads to offer staff discounted and sustainable transport options through well established Council and Government schemes.

Frontline Services has emerged as its own grouping and has worked with a leading retailer and developed and implemented a mystery shopping scheme across the venues to help improve customer services.  The group has developed an NGCV Customer Charter to ensure that all visitors to the venues receive the highest quality customer services across the board.
