Learning & Participation

The Learning and Participation group is a peer learning network, which aims to encourage the NGCV members to think in different ways about the power of learning and participation across cultural forms.  It also has representatives from key partners, including Newcastle City Council, Gateshead Council, and Juice (NewcastleGateshead's festival for children and young people).

In 2015-16 there were 958,608 engagements in learning and participation across all 10 organisations.  65% of those involved were children and young people (aged 0-19 years).  In addition, NGCV as a group support around 2,000 adults through their professional development programmes each year, including educators, artists, cultural and creative practitioners.

We work together to advocate:

  • active participation in culture for all our communities
  • the lifelong impact of participation in cultural activities
  • creativity at the heart of lifelong learning
