TWAM's Green Team

5th August 2019

Tyne and Wear Archive's and Museums Office Green Week 2019 generated some great ideas from staff which included:

  • Elvie Thomson – chooses biodegradable pens rather than the plastic ones when ordering conference supplies. Her team re-uses used paper in their office as scrap for to-do lists etc. and always recycle it at the end. She often brings in packed lunches, and when buying food goes for options that minimise waste. Elvie visits local cafes that use paper and cardboard packaging. She is also part of a vegan lunch group, enjoying plant-based food with colleagues, which is better for the environment.
  • Ellie Clewlow  - repurposes old books and advertising ephemera into art and craft items, like Christmas decorations and installations. The image here shows a wreath decoration made from old sheet music.
  • Stuart Trotter – Uses the inner cardboard tubes of finished toilet and kitchen rolls instead of seed trays/plant pots – sows the seeds in the compost in the tube then plants the tube in the garden. The cardboard will decompose naturally. You could cut the tubes in half to double your “pots”.
  • Charlotte Dack - Culture Bridge North East Team encourage their training delegates to reuse their branded coffee cups back at school. The team also all use them in various formats – for example to take to the café for refills, to take out and about and even as to use as pen pot holders!
  • Sylvia Humphrey – Sylvia reuses and recycles labels (and other packing materials), when transporting objects.  Sylvia keeps boxes of used tissue paper, bubble wrap, plastazote etc. with this in mind.

Ellie Clewlow's sustainabe creation.
