NewcastleGateshead Cultural Venues is a collaboration between 10 building-based cultural producers operating 20 venues across visual arts, performing arts, music, dance, film, writing and literature, heritage, archives and museums and science communication in North East England.

This website explains how and why we are working together and also shares some documents that we have generated that may of practical use to others in the cultural sector.

Built on a decade of informal partnership working between 10 cultural leaders in NewcastleGateshead, since 2009, NGCV has become embedded as part of the everyday working lives of staff and volunteers across all the member organisations.

Every year we assess our collective economic impact. In 2016-17 our total economic contribution to the North East was £94.9 million, we directly employed 1,458 people and supported 2,091 jobs in the region. Collectively, for every £1 of public money invested, there was a return on investment £5.01.

Groups of staff and partners collaborate when we can add value to our own organisations, NGCV and the sector as a whole.  Our current collaboration focuses around two main strands - audience development/public engagement and efficiencies and standards of excellence in how we operate.

NewcastleGateshead's award winning late night culture crawl in May, The Late Shows, has a new twist this year, with the addition of The Twilight Shows. Venues will be opening their doors a little earlier for a series of special events aimed at 12-17 year olds between 4-7pm on 18th and 19th May.
