NewcastleGateshead Cultural Venues is a collaboration between 10 building-based cultural producers operating 19 venues across visual arts, performing arts, music, dance, film, writing and literature, heritage, archives and museums and science communication in North East England.
This website explains how and why we are working together and also shares some documents that we have generated that may of practical use to others in the cultural sector.
Built on a decade of informal partnership working between 10 cultural leaders in NewcastleGateshead, since 2009, NGCV has become embedded as part of the everyday working lives of staff and volunteers across all the member organisations.
Every year we track and monitor our collective economic impact. Our total economic contribution to the North East in 2012-13 was £78.4 million, we directly employed 1231 people and for every £1 of public money invested in NGCV members, there was a return on investment £3.63.
Groups of staff and partners collaborate when we can add value to our own organisations, NGCV and the sector as a whole. We have four key strands: Digital, Public Engagement, Shared Services and Capital Assets, all overseen by Chief Executives.
NGCV has been awarded funding from the Digital R&D Fund for the Arts for The Unusual Suspects, a research project which explores a collaborative approach to using 'Big Data' to develop audiences.
